As television constitutes to be an integral part of daily lives, individuals learn social norms and values expositing choices through the behavior of men and women. Many scholars have studied the types of gender roles but as depicted the earlier years still represented traditional as well as the patriarchal role for men and women but today sitcoms reflect a wider range of lifestyles. The article Beauty and the Patriarchal Beast talks about the relationships between men and women in sitcoms accustoming present scenario and the past situation. When we talk about earlier sitcoms like The Kings of Queens (1998 2007) and Jim (2001 2007) it depicts the textual structure. Moreover, the popular myth as beauty and the beast (patriarchal society) work together and accepts patriarchy as a natural male trait which belittles sexism but conversely represents gender constellation. The women and men in sitcoms provide the characterization of the nontraditional gender roles while reinforcing through patriarchal ideologies, but several scholars do not agree with it. The reason lies in the sitcoms of 1960s and 1970s where women depicted powerful character on sitcoms by changing the theme of man being the sole breadwinner to a fair game. On the other hand, sexism has been a laughing matter when mediated through humor in the reality television. The most mediated, blatant and irrational form is the foolish claims by the male protagonist which provides an entertaining channel for nontraditional gender role groups. However, the obvious fact remains that women today are more intellectually and physically smarter than the men. This can be well seen on the sitcom Two and a Half Men where Alan underestimated by his wife. Although, the phenomenon oversees the importance of women the validity of the fact still encourages male dominance as elucidated by the article. Today, as mentioned people are more interested in comedy that is based on traditional ideas of masculinity (whether it forgets wifes birthday or not taking care of the children at home. Moreover, in response to this women criticizes men by demonstrating their wrong and stupid behavior. Nevertheless, the story involves around men who are never questioned for their roles. Such women in the reality television are considered to be the .post-feminist trap which reflects two conditions of women. Firstly, the exasperated acceptance of tradition gender wave and secondly, the ominous consequences of being socially incompetent but they remain likable characters like female American mixed martial artists Holly Holm and Dana White. Gender Stereotype in todays era continues to promote masculinity portrayed as natural and universal. However, femininity in a sitcom is more related to prudence as well as an emoticon. When it comes to the 21st century, television has been losing its importance, but sitcom and reality series are still evident. The mass audience has been driven to the tweaks of being safe and familiar yet people today have a god laugh at it. If we take any sitcom or reality program whether it is Suits (2011 present) or Americas Got Talent (2006 present) respectively. When we talk about Suits the significant lead in the sitcom is Harvey Specter, but Jessica Pearson heads the law firm which he works in. Though, Harvey is smart but Jessica is termed to smarter as well as manipulative when it comes running a law firm. Here, we can see the society today has shattered all barriers and made women stand on the place of men. On the other hand, when we consider, the reality television of America Got Talent, i t is seen that that Heidi Klum and Mel-B has been on the timeline of judges since 2013 with other two male judges. This depicts that today gender equality is more in focus than gender bias under the patriarchal society. It can be said that though reality television has surfaced the change of outlook of the gender constellations, it continues to affirm male dominance and belittle feminism. Although, there have been many scholars that argue for different notions when it comes to Beauty and the Patriarchal Beast but ultimately it rests in the gender stereotypes. There have been examples when women have been considered more efficient than men, but the position it has resulted in to be is equality between the sexes than female superiority due to traditional gender stereotypes.
